Am I Eligible to Enroll in the Learner Health Insurance Plan?
All full-time learners are required to maintain adequate health insurance to protect against unexpected accidents and illnesses. All eligible learners are automatically enrolled in the university-sponsored learner health insurance plan, at no cost to the learner.
If you are a House Staff enrolling a Domestic Partner or a child of a Domestic Partner in coverage you must contact JHU Benefits at [email protected] immediately. Under section 152 of the Internal Revenue Code, unmarried domestic partners are not recognized as dependents. Therefore, the fair market value of the health insurance benefits provided by the university for a domestic partner must be treated as taxable income. This means that taxes will be calculated on the difference in the premium for individual and two-party coverage that is paid by the university; this amount will be reflected on your pay statement.
